Do I need to open a PayPal account to make
a purchase?
PayPal is the credit card and check
processor for
KINDERREADERS and
in the past, it has been their policy that each customer create
an account with them. This is no longer the case. You may now
make a purchase without opening a paypal account. In order to create a PayPal account, you need
only to enter
a username and password. This is beneficial to you
because once an account has been created, you can pay anyone who accepts PayPal in one easy step in the future. All that will be needed is your
username and password.
Can I open the file in Microsoft Word or other word processing program?
No. The stories are in
PDF format and can only be opened using an Adobe Acrobat program. If
you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 5.0 or higher), you can
download it for free by
clicking here.
Can I make changes to the file once I download it?
No. The books are
copyrighted and cannot be altered without permission. You will receive
a wordless version that will allow you to write your own words. This
gives you the opportunity to create a version that is different from any
that I've written.
Do you offer any lesson plans or activities to go with your books?
This is still in the works.
If you have any suggestions or activities, please submit them to
Sandi@KinderReaders.com .
Will you be writing any books that are related to themes other than the
months?
Yes. Now that the monthly
books are finished, I will write titles for many other themes. Some of
the themes I am considering are: ocean animals, pond life, farm, zoo,
rainforest, pets, solar system, dinosaurs, all about me, friendship,
transportation, polar life, etc.
What if level 1 is still too hard for some of my students?
You have many options
available to you.
1) Use the wordless version and allow the children to describe the
pictures to you
instead of having them read words.
2) Read the story to them and allow them to read along with you on the
2nd or 3rd time.
They will eventually read it from memory, which is a
necessary pre-reading skill.
3) Use the wordless version to write a story that you feel is more
suited to the level of
your students.
What grade level are your books meant to be used in?
I teach Kindergarten and the
concept for the books was developed for use in my classroom.
But...depending on the level of the individual student, it is possible for
the levels 1 - 4 to be used anywhere from pre-K - 2nd grade and
the wordless version could be used as a writing activity for any age.
I have also heard from several ESOL (LEP) teachers and ESE teachers that
KinderReaders have
worked well in their classrooms as well.
Do you offer the books already printed?
At this time, I do not offer
the books already printed, but it is a consideration for the future.
Are the books available in color?
The books are not available
in color for two reasons. The first reason is that they are meant to
be reproducible so that each child can keep his/her own book. The
second reason is that illustrations like these would take huge amounts of
ink if done in color and I didn't think people would be as interested.
Can I order by phone?
Yes. You can now
place orders over the phone. Our office hours are evening hours, so
that is the best time to call. You may also call during the day and
leave a message. Someone will return your call within 48 hours.
We also accept mail orders with an accompanying money order or school P.O.

What do you list on your "suggested activities" page that you send home with
the books?
To give you an idea, here are
some activities I would suggest for the title, "Spider"
(The parent and child would choose one
of the following):
Innovation (Writing extension)
In the book, Spider crawls on
items that rhyme. Have the child add 2-4 pages to the end of the book,
continuing the language pattern of the story. Each page should contain
a new item for Spider to crawl on and every 2 pages should rhyme.
Vocabulary Extension
In the story, Spider crawls up or across the items. Make a
list of other directions Spider could crawl (ie. down, on, into) How
many can you think of?
Math Extension
Spiders have 8 legs. Use small ideas from around the house to
create small sets of 8 things. Glue the sets of eight to a paper
plate, piece of paper, of small piece of tagboard. How many ways can
you make 8?
Science Extension
Use the internet, encyclopedias, and other available areas of
research to learn more about spiders. Create a report on spiders that
includes 5 facts and at least one picture.
How do I compare the levels of
KINDERREADERS
with the traditional leveling systems?
It is impossible to make this
general comparison as each set of books varies. This leveling system
guarantees 5 levels (including the wordless) within each title, but each
book is written with varying difficulties. Most often, children will
work at a certain level for a period of time and then work their way up, but
it is possible that some books within the same level will vary in
difficulty. This is also to be found within the traditional leveling
systems as well. Our goal is to equate each level of each book to a
traditional model for you. Once this project is completed, it will be
published.
I
made my purchase, but I did not receive an e-mail with the download link
Check your spam folder.
With the high spam filters that are used today. It is possible that it
got filtered out. If it is not there, please
e-mail Sandi and I will get the
download link to you right away.
I am clicking the "Add to cart" button, but I
am not getting a shopping cart
Check your pop-up blocker.
If you are blocking pop-ups, the shopping cart function cannot work.
You
must turn-off the pop-up blocker and then try again to use the shopping
cart. It is important to remember, too, that you may
actually have more than 1 pop-up blocker working on your computer. You
may have turned off one or allowed pop-ups from this site, but there may be
another one still in effect. Also, some computers also require you to
"double click" the "add to cart" button in order to activate it. If you are still having
trouble, you can order by phone or
email Sandi.
